Thesis: Sugar, Spice, & Evolutionary Motivations: an Analysis of Sugar Relationships through Sexual Strategy Theory (https://zenodo.org/records/14560276)

  • Examination of mating strategies (short term and long term) observed in individuals in sugar relationships through an evolutionary theoretical framework, specifically Sexual Strategies Theory and Sexual Economics Theory
  • IRB approved quantitative data collection & analysis methods using Qualtrics & STATA
  • Data collected from participants in sugar relationships was compared with data collected on short-term (casual) and long-term relationships
    • Some statistical methods used for analysis: t-test, logistic regresstion, multiple regression, ANOVA, Pearson’s corrleation, converting wide to long data, 
  • Findings of individuals using a type of mixed mating strategy shown through a full research report with visual representations (can be read here)
    • Constructs of individual variation (mate value, sociosexual orientation, etc.) showed some significant correlations with individuals’ observed strategies in sugar relationships; however, an individual’s satisfaction or lack thereof with traditional dating before sugar dating was a powerful indicator of their sexual strategy
